Our support

Supporting you

The people we support are the reason we’re here.

We support 210 people with a range of learning disabilities including autism.

High-quality, person-led social care is at the heart of what we do. And of course, within that, we need to ensure that:

  • Experiences are positive, caring and responsive
  • People are protected from harm, neglect and abuse
  • The care people receive is effective and promotes a good quality of life

Boy on a swing

But at Peak15 it is crucial that we move beyond that. We believe that meeting the fundamental standards of social care should be a given. People should be safe, treated with dignity, safeguarded against neglect and have a high standard of living. But we also believe that social care can be much more than this.

We believe that people should be able to self-advocate and shape their own lives. We want to ensure that Peak People have the means, opportunity and platform to speak up for themselves and express their interests, wishes, hopes, desires and aspirations. And we want everyone we support to understand what that means and how it applies to them and their lives.

Empowering

Meet some of our guys

You won’t see any reference to ‘service user’ at Peak15 – many of the people we support felt that it was a label that removed any individuality. With their blessing, we now affectionately refer to the people we support as ‘the guys’!

James Allington

James

My name is James Allington. I am 32 years old. I used to live at a Peak 15 service named Horley Row, and I moved this year to a self contained flat at Mullins, Dorking.

I’m doing a good range of activities here. I have been rock climbing at K2, cycling to Bocketts Farm and Brockham, out on lots of walks around the local area, out to Box Hill, Rykas cafe (love seeing the motorbikes!) and I’ve joined the local gym. I have enjoyed going to the pub with my housemates although this is currently on hold due the coronavirus, likewise I used to like visiting Swans Club at Leatherhead and the DJ club at Horsham. I’ve made friends with the other guys at Mullins and we have a good laugh together, often meeting up to watch TV in the lounge in the evenings.

I believe I’m gaining independence here; I prepare a lot of my own food, visit the local shops by myself when I need to, I do most of my own cleaning and laundry, have started my own vegetable plot in the garden and am looking to find a job as soon as possible. I feel empowered to make my own decisions here, for example I decided to set up my own fibre broadband due to patchy signal in my flat. Peak 15 Staff and Head Office have been really good in assisting me with this.

My ambitions for the future include finding work (preferably in a kitchen or cafe), getting another tattoo (I have two already) and going to concerts and shows again as soon as it’s possible to do. I was planning to go on a narrow boating holiday this year but am now putting this on hold until next year when I hope we will have obtained a vaccine against the virus.

Steven

My name is Steven William Walker I live at Victoria Lodge Horley. I have lived here for 10/11 years and I love living here. I lived in another home before moving to my own flat and I find that over the years with the support, I have learned how to live more independently and I feel more relaxed living here.

I like cooking, carpentry and woodwork, going out to different places, relaxing watching TV and dislike being bored and loud people or music.

Amber

My name is Amber, I am 28 years old and I have a partner called Chris Bonner who is 27 years old. We have a daughter together who is 2 years old we have been supported by Peak 15 for nearly 3 years now for our family as we both have a learning disability. We get supported twice a day Monday-Saturday.

We learnt quite a lot with our support workers by cooking different meals we also have a car now through the Motability scheme which we are really pleased about as we are going towards our goals to be more independent.

Most of our support workers are driving our car until Chris passes his practical test.

We moved into our house this year which is the 5th February 2020 into a 3 bedroom we have a big garden which is good for our daughter to play in when the weather is nice.

Both of us support Chelsea FC we love gardening, watching films, listening to music.

We both want to be more independent with our 2-year-old in the future. We love learning new things every day.

Peak Parties

We regularly put on seasonal parties and get-togethers – it’s a great opportunity for everyone to mingle, dress up (or down) and have some fun.

Our housing

Places where people love to live

The Peak15 aim is to ensure that all of our services are situated in great housing. Every property should be of good quality, well decorated and furnished, and fit for purpose. Environment impacts our sense of well-being and our properties are someone’s home and should be treated as such.

The Peak15 housing options are in various locations across Surrey and Sussex and include registered residential homes, group supported living houses and individual cottages, bungalows and flats. All of the properties are set up to be people-led and driven by the people we support. Maximising independence is the absolute way forward.

Community Team

Our fabulous Community Team support 35 people in Surrey and West Sussex with a current staff team of 28. Most of the people we support are based in the East Surrey area, but we also support individuals in the East Grinstead, Lingfield and Oxted areas.

We support people with various needs including Learning Disabilities, Autism, Mental Health and Physical/Neurological needs. The type of support we deliver varies depending on the individual, and support hours can vary, starting from as little as 4 hrs a week to round the clock support.

Progressive

People we support live either in their own privately rented homes or in Peak15 rented properties with their own individual tenancies. Some of the people we support live with families who are their full-time carers and we visit their homes to support and provide respite to the families. We also support a young couple who are parents to a young daughter.

Our support is designed to be person centred and to challenge the individual to step outside their comfort zone. There will be an element of everyday support (things like maintaining health and wellbeing, accessing medical appointments, food prep and diet, domestic tasks, financial budgeting) to accessing the community (social activities, social networking, group organised activities, seasonal events). But our staff are also encouraged to think outside the box and challenge individuals to progress in all areas of their life. Things like employment, relationships, travel and independence.

The whole of the Peak15 group work together to ensure that the people we support in the Community feel involved and engaged with the whole of the Peak15 family and there is a high level of integration at social events and company organised events.

Our Performance Standards and CQC Ratings

‘May your dreams be larger than mountains’

Harley King

Performance standards are a great tool for driving up quality. The Care Quality Commission inspects our services for compliance in relation to the important domains of safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership. We also measure our own performance against a complementary set of Peak15 People Standards which focus on quality of life.
